Events
Fundraising events are a critical part of our operating budget — they help us provide all the care every animal needs, and they fund the community programs that keep pets safe and families together.
Every ticket and registration keeps a tail wagging
Fundraising events are a critical part of our operating budget and provide us the ability to give all of the necessary care to each and every animal that enters our shelter. They also support the programs we offer to the community — like PetCORE, PetFIX, Trap-Neuter-Return, and Spay the Mom.
The traditions our community looks forward to
Over the years a handful of beloved events have become Homeward Bound traditions. Dates change from year to year, so watch our social pages for the next one — here's what each is all about.
Woofstock
Our beloved dog walk and festival fundraiser. The morning kicks off with registration, rolls into a one-mile walk with your pup, and rounds out with live music, food from the food cart, and a splashy doggie dip in the town pool. Typically held at the Memorial Sports Center in Middlebury — fun for the whole family, two-legged and four.
Bow Wow Film Festival
A delightful evening of short films celebrating our beloved canine companions and all the joy they bring — pups as adventure buddies, service dogs, and lifelong pals. Presented in partnership with the Town Hall Theater, with proceeds benefiting both organizations.
Lights of Love Tree Lighting & Open House
This is not your average holiday memory tree — we believe it's the only program of its kind in Vermont. Colored lights honor the living pets who brighten our days; white lights remember the ones we've lost. Dedicate a light for a donation of $3, then join us for a tree-lighting ceremony and open house at the shelter.
Pet CPR & First Aid Class
An occasional hands-on class where you can learn life-saving CPR and first aid skills for your own pet. A practical, confidence-building session for any pet parent who wants to be ready for the unexpected.
Author & Community Events
Book signings and partner events that bring animal lovers together. Past gatherings have included a visit from journalist and bestselling author Peter Zheutlin, presenting his book Rescued: What Second-Chance Dogs Teach Us to benefit the shelter.
