Ways to give

Thank you for your interest in helping the homeless animals of Addison County! Every gift — large or small, one-time or monthly — directly supports their care.

Your gift makes the difference

Homeward Bound is a private, non-profit that receives and relies on donations from animal lovers like you. We are a 501(c)(3), so your donation is tax-deductible.

We are not affiliated with or funded by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) or the ASPCA. Additionally, we do not receive any county, state, or federal funding.

Many companies offer a matching gift program. This could double your gift to Homeward Bound — ask your employer's HR department whether they match charitable donations.

Homeward Bound respects our donors' privacy and will never sell, trade, or otherwise make available the names of our supporters without permission.

Planned giving

Leave a legacy for the animals

Making a planned gift to Homeward Bound is a meaningful way to carry forward your compassion for animals — and one of the most effective ways to ensure we can continue to save lives. Contributions may be made in many ways that enable you to help innocent animals while receiving tax benefits.

📜

Bequest in your will

Direct a specific bequest of money or an asset (such as stock); designate a percentage of the total value of your estate; or leave a residual bequest directing that Homeward Bound receive the remainder of your estate, or a portion of it, after all expenses and other bequests are made.

🏦

Retirement plans & IRA RMDs

Any or all of an IRA, 401(k), or other retirement plan can be donated — name Homeward Bound as a full or partial beneficiary. If you are age 72 and over, you can donate all or part of your annual Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) directly to Homeward Bound, tax-free, satisfying the IRS requirement while saving you the taxes on a distribution you must take anyway.

🛡️

Life insurance, trusts & CDs

Homeward Bound can be named as a whole or partial beneficiary under life insurance policies, trusts, and Certificates of Deposit (CDs).

🤝

Charitable remainder trusts & gift annuities

A Charitable Remainder Trust (CRT) or Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA) enables you to receive a lifetime income from an investment while receiving a tax deduction for the value of the investment donated to charity.

“Ralph Waldo Emerson once wrote ‘to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived, this is to have succeeded.’ His words strike a chord with me, and they serve as inspiration to carry forward my love and compassion for animals, as well as my wish to serve them, by making a planned gift to Homeward Bound.” — Susan B.
